After the closure of Northumberland Today, journalists regroup to find meaningful work
Torstar is morphing five Metro dailies into the Toronto Star brand, as it hires 20 new reporters in Vancouver and Alberta and refocuses the newspapers on investigative coverage.
The Toronto Star is suspending its summer and year-long internship programs, and will resume hiring for those positions once “it’s economically feasible to do so.”
Last month, Torstar and Postmedia shuttered more than 30 local newspapers. Some reporters have lost their portfolios, as well as their jobs.
The Federal Competition Bureau is reviewing the transaction.
