The best long-form journalism involves a lot of red ink. An editor’s corrections, cuts, and revisions often go unseen by the public. Here at The Markup, our job is to dissect their choices.

Episode 4: Unfounded

Last month, the Globe and Mail published “Unfounded,” – a series that stemmed from a 20 month long investigation into how police services handle sexual assault cases across Canada. Reporter Robyn Doolittle sent 250 Freedom of Information requests to gather data from police services across the country. The Globe also produced an interactive map that allows users to see how many cases were unfounded in their city. All these components came together to tell the story behind “unfounded” sexual assault cases – a term many readers had likely never heard of before Doolittle brought it to their attention.

Doolittle joined The Markup to discuss how the investigation came together.
