Offleash is the Ryerson Review of Journalism‘s first-ever regular podcast, published on RRJ.ca every second Wednesday at 3:33 p.m.
In this week’s episode, Allison, our multimedia editor, and Viviane, senior editor, team up to cover a controversial topic: math…and journalism. The Review’s instructor Tim Falconer makes a guest appearance to talk about his 2014 blog post “The dangerous pride of the innumerate journalist” and his newest book Bad Singer: The Surprising Science of Tone Deafness and How We Hear Music.” The Financial Post‘s Peter Kuitenbrouwer talks about processing numbers in his feature the Maple Syrup Rebellion. And later on in the show Stephanie, our production editor, interviews Siobhan Roberts, a science journalist and well-established author who writes about math and mathematicians. Her writing has been described as “expanding the public’s view of mathematics.”
